Last year in September, I walked for my daughter, a baby girl who had no choice but to show strength for something she didn't have a choice in and fight her diagnosis, coming through the other side stronger, braver and with a growth physically in personality and character.
She is my hero.
I walked proud for Alexia, with the thoughts of every other child and family. But even after treatment the thought of "Has it come back? Will it?" is something I carried and i know every parent carries.
This year my walk is a little different I'm walking through the Kookaburra Transplant Ward with my baby girl by my side.
Once again, she has already amazed me with her incredible strength, not understanding what's ahead of her, just that she's here to have her medicine and get better. This time with the help of her incredible brother. Their twin bond just became unbreakable.
Alexia is funny, fierce, stubborn in all the best ways, and has a smile that lights up every room she walks into. She is deeply loved, endlessly brave, and the heart of our family.
Our beautiful little girl has already endured more in her short life than most people do in a lifetime.
In 2024, our world shattered when Alexia was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic hepatoblastoma—a rare and aggressive childhood liver cancer that had already spread to her lungs.
What followed was a fight no child should ever have to face.
Alexia endured countless rounds of chemotherapy, prolonged hospital stays, endless procedures, and a massive life-saving surgery.
There were more setbacks than we can count—constant illness, infections, complications, and days filled with fear and uncertainty.
The treatment that saved her life also changed it forever.
The chemotherapy caused hearing loss, and she suffered seizures. At one point, Alexia lost the ability to walk and talk. But true to who she is, she fought her way back—step by step, word by word.
We watched her take her first steps all over again.
We heard her find her voice again.
And somehow, through every challenge, her incredible strength, silliness, and beautiful personality continued to shine through. That spark in her—the one that makes Alexia Alexia—never left.
Her twin brother has been by her side through it all—her built-in best friend, biggest cheerleader, and one of the reasons she keeps fighting.
And she beat it.
In 2026, she rang the bell.
We thought we had made it to the other side.
She got stronger.
Her confidence returned.
Her laughter filled our home again.
Her beautiful, cheeky spirit shone brighter than ever.
She started kindergarten, finally getting to enjoy the simple joys every child deserves.
And then life threw us another devastating curveball.
Alexia has now been diagnosed with therapy-related myeloid neoplasam a rare and serious bone marrow disease which we think was caused by the very chemotherapy that saved her from cancer. Further testing has revealed ongoing abnormal cells in her bone marrow, confirming how serious this diagnosis is, these findings mean she is at high risk of it developing to acute leukaemia. This is why a bmt is now essential.
Now, she faces another unimaginable fight.
She is back on chemotherapy, preparing for a bone marrow transplant.
That means more hospital stays.
More procedures.
More isolation.
And more time away from the people she loves most—including her twin brother.
In an emotional twist, her twin brother is also her bone marrow donor—the person who could help save her life.
It’s hard to put into words what that means to us.
If there is one thing Alexia has taught us, it is how to fight with courage, joy, and resilience.
Along the way we've met some truly incredible people and organisations who have helped us smile through some of our darkest days. Camp Quality has been one of those lights for our family.
A special thank you to our incredible BMT nurses, who always walked through the door with a smile, a little playfulness and so much warmth. You made the hardest days feel a little lighter for Alexia, and we’ll never forget the love and care you gave her. ❤️
As we prepare to face another chapter of Alexia's journey, we're reminded just how grateful we are for the people who've helped carry us through the first one. Camp Quality has been a part of that, and that's why this walk means so much to our family.
Camp Quality has given our family something that cancer tries so hard to take away—moments where our children can simply be children.
They have brought smiles on the hardest days, laughter in hospital rooms, and reminded Alexia and Ari that they are so much more than a diagnosis. They've supported not only our brave little girl, but our whole family through a journey we never imagined we'd be on, and on again.
Every step I take is for Alexia, for Ari, and for every child and family whose lives have been changed by childhood cancer.
