Support my Big Walk for Little Kids

Every month, 64 Australian families are given the heart-breaking news that their child has cancer.

This September during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I'm taking part in Big Walk for Little Kids to bring fun, positivity and laughter back into the lives of little kids facing cancer.

Every dollar I raise will fund Camp Quality's services and programs to help little kids who are dealing with their own diagnosis, or the diagnosis of a brother, sister, mum or dad.

Please support my BIG walk to give little kids and families the break from cancer they urgently need. As they say at Camp Quality "laughter is the best medicine", so please give generously so we can spread those smiles far and wide.

Thank you so much!

Walking forward with gratitude for kids facing cancer

After travelling through my own cancer journey and while still undergoing ongoing cancer treatment I have developed an even deeper compassion for anyone facing this disease. I’ve experienced major surgery, radiation and ongoing treatment, and I know something of the fear, uncertainty, exhaustion and recovery that cancer can bring. But as an adult, I cannot begin to imagine what it must be like for a child to face cancer or what it is like for their parents, siblings and grandparents to watch a little person they love go through something so frightening. That is why I have chosen to walk and raise funds for Camp Quality. As my own health continues to improve, I’m incredibly grateful that I am reaching a stage where I can begin rebuilding my strength and doing something I’ve always loved walking. Throughout September, while I am still receiving treatment myself, I’m going to put those steps towards something much bigger than me. I’ll be spending much of the month near the beautiful beach of Hervey Bay afforded to me by a caring friend , and my challenge is to walk regularly, rebuild my fitness and raise as much as I possibly can to support children living with cancer and their families. Every kilometre will remind me how grateful I am that my own body is becoming stronger again This isn’t simply a walking challenge for me. It’s an opportunity to take something incredibly difficult from my own life and turn it into compassion, gratitude and action for somebody else. I’ll walk for the children who should be thinking about playing, laughing, going to school and growing up not cancer treatment. I’ll walk for the mums and dads sitting beside hospital beds. I’ll walk for the brothers and sisters whose lives are affected too. And I’ll walk with enormous gratitude that, even while my own treatment continues, I am able to keep putting one foot in front of the other One day One kilometre One step at a time Thank you to everyone who encourages me, walks alongside me or makes a donation. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps support children and families travelling a road none of them ever expected to walk

Great day

I’m amazed how many km I’ve ticked up just doing some serious house work moving rooms around

morning walk

morning walk my beautiful granddaughter and my great grandson in the Gold Coast botanical Gardens such a lovely day overcast cool and relaxed

Day 2 loving these walks

Another beautiful day well spent An early morning walk through the Botanic Gardens at Benowa on the Gold Coast with my granddaughter and great-grandson, followed by a relaxing walk along the beach at Main Beach. The beach really is my happy place there’s just something about the ocean that settles my soul. Then it was off for a walk around the shopping centre, where it was a little cooler and out of the sun. Another day of walking done and dusted and some beautiful memories made along the way

So far, I have helped provide...

20 kids supported through a scary medical procedure by a Child Life Therapist.

16 kids filled with laughter from their hospital bed during a playdate with our puppets.

4 families to take a break from cancer and reconnect at a 5-day Family Retreat.
