I’m fundraising because Cancer sucks.

Every day, two Aussie families are given the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. I’m taking part in the Classic Cruise Canberra to help give kids facing cancer the chance to be kids again.

Every month, 64 kids are diagnosed with a cancer.

For 40 years, Camp Quality has improved the quality of life for kids impacted by cancer, and their families.

Camp Quality's programs and services help families build optimism and resilience through community, education and fun. They support kids (0-15) dealing with their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a sibling, parent, or carer every step of the way.

Last year, Camp Quality supported 1 in 3 kids diagnosed with cancer. Their goal is to help them all!

Diagnosis and Common Types

Incidence rate: About 16 per 100,000 children aged 0–14 annually. [1]

Age factor: Nearly half of all childhood diagnoses happen in very young children aged 0–4. [1, 2]

Most common diagnoses (ages 0–14):

Leukaemia (approx. 33% of cases)
Brain and central nervous system tumors (approx. 25% of cases)
Lymphomas (approx. 10% of cases) [1, 2]

Survival and Mortality

Survival rate: The national 5-year relative survival rate for children (0–14) is roughly 86%, placing Australia among the top countries globally for childhood cancer survival. [1, 2]

Mortality: Roughly 85 to 95 children aged 0–14 pass away from cancer each year in Australia. [1, 2]

Long-term effects: About two-thirds of childhood cancer survivors face serious long-term health challenges due to treatments on growing bodies. [1, 2]
