🚐 Escapade 2026 Build Update – Big Progress on the Delica!

It’s been a massive few months for our 2026 Camp Quality Escapade vehicle – our trusty 1996 Mitsubishi Delica – and we’re excited to share the latest progress!

We’ve been hard at work making sure the van is not only looking great but is mechanically solid, reliable, and ready to take on the journey ahead.

🔧 What We’ve Completed

Over the past three months, we’ve ticked off some major upgrades and maintenance:

• Underbody Protection & Rust Proofing
  A crucial step to preserve the Delica for the long haul. The entire underbody has been treated and protected, ensuring it can handle whatever the road throws at it.

• Braking System Overhaul
  Safety first! We’ve installed new front and rear brake pads and rotors, giving us confidence in stopping power no matter the terrain.

• Brand New Exhaust System
  A huge thanks to Muffler to the Max Molendinar for fitting a new exhaust. The Delica is now running smoother, quieter, and more efficiently.

• Air Conditioning Repair ❄️
  Just in time for the Aussie heat! Big shoutout to Red Devil Nerang for getting the air con back in top shape – a must-have for those long summer drives.

• New Tyres
  Fresh rubber all around means better grip, improved safety, and a more comfortable ride.

• Full Fluid Service
  We’ve renewed all key fluids, including:

  • Engine oil

  • Gearbox oil

  • Transmission fluids

  This gives the van a fresh mechanical baseline and helps ensure long-term reliability.

🚀 What’s Next?

With the mechanical foundations now sorted, we’re getting closer to shifting focus toward the fun stuff – setup, presentation, and preparing the Delica for its Escapade journey.

Welcome to the first chapter of our Reboot Van journey!

After plenty of searching (and a few false starts), we’ve officially secured the vehicle that will become our very own Reboot Van for Camp Quality Escarpade 2026!

Say hello to our new project: a 1996 Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 SWB — complete with a very enthusiastic (but not exactly powerful) 2.8L four-cylinder turbo diesel.

To join the Escarpade, vehicles need to be 20+ years old, and the Delica’s proven Mitsubishi 4x4 platform — shared with the earlier Pajeros — made it a perfect fit for taking on the outback challenge.

We chose this particular Delica because it already comes equipped with several handy accessories and upgrades, ticking off a few items on the scrutineering checklist right from the start. But don’t be fooled… she’s still got a long way to go before she’s outback-ready!

What needs attention?

• No air-con (a must for outback survival!)

• A few oil leaks

• Cooling system service + full fluid change

• Very hard tyres that need replacing

• Minor rust in the roof (apparently a classic Delica problem)

• Upgrades we’d love to add: snorkel, roof platform, and of course the full Reboot Van wrap

She’s already booked in next week for the airbag safety recall at Mitsubishi Southport — the first official step in her glow-up.
