Kick for Camp Quality 2025

I'm using my training to make life brighter for kids facing cancer!

I'm kicking into action to make a difference! Thanks to the incredible support from Hunter Valley Martial Arts, I'm taking on the Kick for Camp Quality challenge to raise funds and brighten the lives of kids facing cancer.

My Challenge: To complete my challenge level everyday from 15th December - 7th February.

  • Minimites (3-6 years): 10 kicks or 5 push-ups
  • Dynamites (6-9 years): 20 kicks or 10 push-ups
  • Dragons (9-14 years): 30 kicks or 15 push-ups
  • Adults (14+ years): 40 kicks or 20 push-ups

It’s going to be tough but nothing compared to what these kids go through.

Every month, 64 kids are diagnosed with a cancer. Camp Quality's programs and services help families build optimism and resilience through community, education and fun. They support kids (0-15) dealing with their own cancer diagnosis or the diagnosis of a sibling, parent, or carer every step of the way.

Please donate to my page and help give kids facing cancer the chance to be kids again.

First 40 done!

Listening to the birds in the trees I warmed up with Tai chi Bassai and followed with 10 mae geri, 10 yoko geri, 10 mawashi geri and 10 ushiro geri

Day 2

It's raining on the front porch today so it's living room karate/kobudo today.  Warmed up with Tai chi Bassai again then 10 of each kicks, same as yesterday.  Took a bit more time with ushiro geri today and added the rotation in rather than static. Moved on to sai basics then Nicho sai and Sancho sai kata finishing off with Choun no kon bo kata.

(No photo today ... I have washing I need to fold on my lounge that I didn't want to share .. haha!)

Day 3

A different view of trees for today's kicks and joined by Cator and my 4yr old grand nephew AJ!  Lesssss gooooo!
10 of each!

Day 4

Ooops!  A little late on this one. We had a big day yesterday!  Soji in the morning and watching a couple of our young female Dynamites (under 10's) grade to their black belts!!!  I was so impressed!  The future is bright with these young females coming up through the ranks!

Completed this lot with the Redhead Crew! 10 of each!

Day 5

Beach Training Day!  A beautiful morning of reflection and fun!  And I got to complete my kicks with my sister karateka!  50 mae geri!

Day 6

A bit of a rest day from Xmas social engagements so back to lounge room karate! 10 of each!

Day 7

She was a hot one today!!! I was waiting until it cooled down but at 7.30pm it was still 43 degrees! Yikes!  Stayed in a/c comfort and completed 10 of each in the lounge room. (Also laundry is now all folded and put away!)

Day 8

Almost forgot ... remembered just in time to do kicks straight up in the air whilst lying in bed! 40 mae geri to the sky!  haha!

Day 9

A busy day today, but remembered that I'm doing the kicks for the kids! 10 of each whilst watching the Christmas episode of Ted Lasso!!! Woohoo!

Day 10

Christmas Eve!  Did 10 of each kicks in the living room with Sensei Cator! Whilst watching the movie "Elf" - our favourite Christmas movie!!!

Day 11 - Santa Day!

Christmas Day I had the honour of doing my 40 kicks with Sensei Cator and Sempai Theo (recently graduated to Kindymites - woohoo!).  Sempai Theo held the strike shield while we kicked and then we held it for him!!!  Thanks Sempai Theo!

Days 12-20 - Twixmas time!

Ok, so didn't post during this weird time between Christmas and New Years (or maybe just a little beyond).  It was nice to just escape into that time of not having to be anywhere at any time.  That said ... still did my kicks.  Almost forgot some days and did them in bed, kicking to the sky ... and had to double up one day because I forgot the day before.  But we're here now, and we've kept it going!!!  About a month to go!!!

Day 21

Today's kicks were in the pool!!! Our favourites - Sensei Norma and Sensei Cator joined in too!  10 of each!

Day 22

Today's kicks were on the front deck again with some Tai Chi Bassai and Kobudo training (A tai B)! 40 mae geri!

Day 23

Nice early start today - 6am! Had a lovely view of Lake Mac as I did my kicks!  Was feeling energised so did 20 of each ...woohoo bonus!  Followed by a 45 minute walk along the Esplanade!

Day 24

Ooops!  Almost forgot - 40 to the sky in bed!  haha!

Day 25

My kicks allowed me to have a nice break from work! 40 mae geri in my office!

Day 26

A beautiful morning walk on Blacksmiths Beach today watching the sun come up. Tai Chi Bassai, Unsu and 10 of each kicks in a mid walk break!

Day 27 thru to today - 2nd last day of kicks!

So a couple of days have been missed, but a couple of days we've double and tripled up!  Pushing us along were thoughts of the young ones battling disease that they can not escape.  This is the least we could do.

One of the days we tripled up was last Sunday - day 48! We had our Kindymate ;) Theo and his sister Abi help us out! (see pics).  Big final tomorrow!!!

Thank you to my supporters!
