For ryder, my forever superhero

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of my beautiful boy, Ryder. In December 2013 , our lives changed in an instant. After countless hospital visits, unexplained symptoms, and a year of searching for answers, I rushed Ryder to the Royal Children’s Hospital with his worst nosebleed yet. He was limp in my arms, pale and weak. Nurses took him from me immediately and told me something no parent is ever prepared to hear: “He needs a blood transfusion now or he won’t make it.” That moment is forever etched into my heart. The fear. The confusion. The helplessness. After a whirlwind of tests, we were told Ryder had Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). He was only two and a half years old. No child should have to endure what followed intensive treatments, procedures, hospital stays, and endless battles far too big for such a little body. Despite it all, Ryder showed strength beyond his years. He smiled through pain, brought joy to every room, and reminded everyone around him what true bravery looked like. But on January 11, 2015, my world broke. That was the day I lost the love of my life. My little superhero grew his wings. It’s been years, and yet the ache never leaves. I carry him with me in everything I do, in every breath I take. And now, this September, I’m walking for him. I’m doing the Big Walk for Little Kids in Ryder’s honour. To help children who are living the same nightmare Ryder did. To support families who are currently walking the path we once walked. To fund programs through Camp Quality that give these kids a chance to laugh, to play, and to feel like kids again if only for a moment. This cause is everything to me. And if walking can help another child smile, find comfort, or experience a little joy in the midst of treatment then I will walk as far as my legs will carry me. Ryder gave me a purpose I never expected. And this walk is one of the many ways I’ll continue to honour him and the light he brought into this world. Wow… I’m truly lost for words. I am beyond grateful for the outpouring of love and support. To know that my little boy is still so loved and remembered means more than I could ever express. My heart is full thank you from the bottom of it

A fundraiser so incredibly close to my heart

In just under 24 hours, we’ve raised $3,775 and I am honestly blown away. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love, generosity, and support. I’m walking for my son, and for all the brave, beautiful children we’ve had the honour of meeting on this journey.

Wow I am truly speechless. When I set out with a goal to raise $2,000 for Big Walk for Little Kids, I never imagined we’d hit that in under 24 hours. I was already in tears… and then we hit $3,000. And now $4,000. My heart is so full. To feel this level of love and support for Ryder and I, it means more than I can ever express. Every message, every donation, every word of encouragement… I’ve read them all and felt them deeply. Everything I do is for him. To honour him. To keep his spirit alive. And knowing you’re all walking beside us, cheering us on, is something I’ll never take for granted. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
