I’m taking part in 1000 K’s 4 Kids 2019!
Camp Quality’s 1,000 Ks 4 Kids is a unique cycling challenge that sees ordinary people doing the extraordinary by partaking in a 10-day bike trip full of mate ship, teamwork and long days to help make a difference to kids impacted by cancer.
I will be riding to honour a young man’s cancer journey, Hayden, and all the other families out there that effected by this awful disease.
Every day, two Aussie families are given the heartbreaking news that their child has cancer. Like my cousin Brooke, Hayden’s mum, this is an unimaginable feeling.
Camp Quality is committed to reshaping the mindset of a generation and to creating a more resilient, informed and compassionate young-adult population through our programs and services in hospital, at home, in school and away from it all. For Brooke, Camp Quality was a big part of their lives, these are her words on their experience;
“Camp Quality has provided our family with wonderful opportunities to enjoy life at a time when we weren’t sure we could – Camp Quality was introduced to us at the very beginning of Hayden’s journey when the Camp Quality puppets would play and do all possible to cheer him up during the very dark and long hospital stays. The Camp Quality puppets then helped reintroduce Hayden to school as a bald headed anxious child after 1.5 years away. We enjoyed precious family time at the Camp Quality Retreat and many Camp Quality fun days. Camp Quality understands that Cancer doesn’t just affect one child, but the entire family. It’s been an unbelievable journey for our family but one which has been brightened by the support and kindness of Camp Quality. The impact Camp Quality has had and continues to have on our lives is enormous.”
The cancer experience can take away something Camp Quality calls Kid-ness from children. Kid-ness is the sheer delight of being in the moment. The strength to believe anything is possible and giving with all your heart – it’s the essence of being a kid. Camp Quality helps Kid-ness thrive for children going through the daily ups and downs of cancer. I’m taking part in the Camp Quality 1000 K’s 4 Kids to help bring Kid-ness back for kids that are impacted by cancer. It would be awesome if you could help too, by donating to support us reach our target.
As they say at Camp Quality “laughter is the best medicine”, so please give generously so we can spread the smiles far and wide.
