My third fight camp is here!

My first fight was a surreal experience, one of my life's best moments. I was so nervous, and it showed in the first round when my opponent got the better of me. But he was tired the second I stopped him. I loved the feeling of euphoria, which is one of the reasons I did it again. My second fight was different from my first. During the early match-making sparring days, I sparred with my opponent, Ross, and I could tell he was much less experienced and fit than I was. When I found out (six weeks out) that I was fighting him, I was not happy, as I wanted a harder fight. This made my camp very hard, as I knew I couldn't take Ross lightly, although that was easier said than done. Come fight night, I was shitting myself, as I felt underprepared and very nervous, mainly that I had underestimated him and he was going to beat the crap out of me. It turns out I won and won pretty easily in the first round. Kudos to Ross, though, such a great guy, and we had a beer after the fight. The biggest thing to come out of the fight night for me, though, was I knew I was not finished and I needed to go again. Prior to joining Shadowbox HQ and taking on my first fight, I was 109kg with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver, and a heap of other issues. By the time I took my first fight, I had gotten down to 85kg and am now at a healthy 82kg. I have never felt better physically or mentally and have a clean bill of health. I have also managed to be mentally fitter than ever, with my overall home and work life being the best it's ever been. I hope my journey can inspire others to make changes in their lives with their health, it doesn't have to be boxing. It could be anything. Small steps and one day at a time make a huge difference.Shadowbox HQ Gym Changed My Life
Joining Shadowbox in October 2022 seriously changed my life. Surrounding myself with like-minded people, a gym environment where the coaches care for you like family, and a place you would trust with your daughters has been the best journey. From the many challenges to the contender camp, I couldn't have asked for a better place to find. I'm really looking forward to my future years there and when my daughters are old enough to train there with me.Matchmaking Sparring Day
The dreaded sparring day at Artarmon. Every camp, usually around weeks 4 and 6, all gyms participating in contender meet at one location for a sparring day. The anxiety is real as you have no idea what to expect and often get matched against people better than yourself. I did pretty well and got the better of two of the three. In my last round, though, I came up against a 21-year-old who hit me in the back of the head, dropping me at the end of round three.Shadowbox HQ Training camp
The weekend just went the 6th and 7th of April, and most of our Gym visited Bulli Beach for the weekend. It consisted of plenty of laughs, and banter but heaps of training. We also got in a breath work and ice bath session. Not all the members who participated were fighting, only five of us, but we got plenty of hard training in.First Half Marathon
Really happy with the effort, got my 21km run done which is an additional 5km on top of my previous best distance of 16km. Legs got super heavy but good to get it under my belt and build up the fitness10 Rounds of Sparring
As part of our journey towards the end of the camp we have a big club sparring day. During this day we spar 10 x 2 minute rounds. Today was tough, the last few rounds really tested me however I felt good in there with my fitness. Although the fight is scheduled for 3 x 2 minute rounds doing 10 ideally gets us in great shape for the fight!Thank you to my supporters!
