If you ask families facing cancer what they want for Christmas, the answer is always the same – more time together as a family, reconnecting after the trauma of cancer treatment. Making happy memories.
“We thought we were going to lose him a lot of the time,” says Vanessa, mother to Bobby who was only two years old when he was diagnosed with leukaemia.
“Because Bobby was very, very sick.”
Too sick even to attend a Camp Quality Family Camp this year, something which could have given Bobby, his mum and dad, and his four brothers and sisters a break from cancer treatment and the isolation and separation of extended hospital visits.
The horrifying rollercoaster of childhood cancer is really tough on the siblings, too.
“It’s mentally and physically draining on the other kids. Charlie, his older sister, is very close to Bobby and she has found it extremely hard.” Vanessa says.
