On the Road: WesCarpade Day 5

09 Aug 2018

Day 5: Thursday 9th August

If Day 4 was relaxing for our intrepid Weskies, Day 5 was anything but. A challenging course saw the convoy leave Mt Barker and head deep into the forests and across several creek crossings – including one which resulted in several cars either stalling or being towed through. Nemo lived up to its name, while the Pirates crew sailed through the water challenge with ease. Props to Croc Hunter and Janina who refused to let the crossing get the better of her, eventually climbing out of the water.

Highlights of Day 5 included:

  • Breakfast in Mt Barker before heading west into the forests.
  • A set of creek crossings, including a challenging 600mm deep crossing on the aptly-named Break Road. Several of the 2WD vehicles stalled while crossing, and a couple of cars ended up with plenty of creek water sloshing around inside. Kudos to the great work from our mechanic teams and OVs for nursing our Weskies through.
  • A tour through the Valley of the Giants with an impromptu fried Italian sausage tasting courtesy of Casey’s Combi team.
  • Pizza at the quaint Tingledale Hall for lunch.
  • A visit to the Mt Frankland reserve for some great views over the trees and valleys.
  • A parade through the main street of Manjimup, escorted by the local police.
  • Dinner and wine tasting at the Tall Timbers restaurant in the town centre, followed by an evening of karaoke hosted by some of our more talented Weskies.

Today’s Dipstick Award went to Greg Stewart in the Batman Car.

Tomorrow the crew heads to Donnybrook for our second last evening on the road.
