On the Road: WesCarpade Day 6

10 Aug 2018

Day 6: Friday 10th August

Day 6 featured a wet and chilly run through some of the more beautiful parts of the Blackwood and Preston Valleys. Apart from a few muddy puddles, it was smooth sailing for our Weskies, who enjoyed a visit to Gnomesville, lunch at the Mumby Pub and a meeting with some of our great supporters in Donnybrook.

Highlights of Day 6 included:

  • A chilly morning leaving Manjimup with a few mud holes to wake up our Weskies.
  • A spectacular climb out of the Blackwood Valley with views over the pine plantations and district.
  • A visit to the Greenbushes Primary School, with generous donations from several of the children.
  • Lunch at the Mumballup Pub featuring famous Mumby Burgers.
  • Establishment of the Wescarpade Gnome Family at Gnomesville, featuring some tastefully decorated Weskie gnomes.
  • A visit to the Sheehan family farm in Donnybrook, including meeting freestyle motocross champion Josh Sheehan. Our very own Beckie Yu set up a street stall under an umbrella to provide freshly cooked spring rolls.
  • A dinner hosted by the Donnybrook Football Club. Our Weskies were joined by a few dozen locals and several past participants who made the trip from Bunbury to welcome the crew.

Today’s Dipstick Award went to our Director Susan Fleming, for an issue with course notes. We suspect it’s the first time in the event’s history that somebody has won the dipstick award twice on one event.

Tomorrow the crew heads to the finish line at Busselton to meet awaiting Camp Quality families.
