To see not only the towns we are travelling to but how we are going to getting there these route descriptions will give you further details into the directions we will drive:
Day 1: Lismore – Gatton – Nambour
Day one starts in Lismore and barrels into QLD via the Border Ranges National Park, stopping for lunch at Gatton.
The track immediately after lunch is challenging…. for about 10km, as we climb up onto Seventeen Mile Rd via a bumpy road through Lockyer National Park. From there is smooth sailing through Kilcoy and the Glass House Mountains before stopping in Nambour to finish our first day.
Day 2: Nambour – Maryborough – Bundaberg
The next day we exit Nambour through Mapleton, tracking west of Imbil and Gympie, stopping for lunch at Maryborough.
After lunch we rattle around in Wongi State Forest for an hour or so popping out only to continue due north into the rum capital of the universe – Bundaberg.
Day 3: Bundaberg – Calliope – Rockhampton
We drive south west out of Bundy and complete a little loop around Morganville before heading north through the Boolboonda Tunnel, a definite highlight of the trip.
After a quick lunch at Calliope (30km south of Gladstone) we run along the eastern edge of Dee Range, pulling up stumps for a well-earned day off in Rockhampton, venturing north of the Tropic of Capricorn for the first time in the event’s history.
Day 4: Rockhampton (Lay Day)
Rockhampton, the beef capital of Australia, lies at the northern end of the Discovery Coast. If you're not spending the entire day tinkering with your car, there are plenty of nearby places to explore and activities to do!
Day 5: Rockhampton - Eidsvold – Kingaroy
Day 5 on esCarpade traditionally seems to be a big one and 2020 follows suit. It’s time to turn south and we do so, heading to Kingaroy via Eidsvold and tackling over 550km in the process.
Kingaroy this year coincides with a plant shut down, so BEDS WILL BE LIMITED. This provides a “St George-style” opportunity for some of us to roll out the swag and camp under the stars!
Day 6: Kingaroy – Tara – Goondiwindi
We kick day 6 off by swooping south towards Dalby but drive just north of the town to grab some lunch in Tara. After lunch we hook up with Goodar Retreat Rd and follow it all the way into Goondiwindi for our second last night.
Day 7: Goondiwindi – Tenterfield – Inverell
On our final day we cross the Macintyre River, placing us back in NSW. We follow the border for most of the morning cutting across a small patch of QLD as we track east to Tenterfield for lunch.
The final PM section is short but spectacular, taking in Stannum, Torrington and Emmaville before dropping into Inverell from the North East.
